The Trimbach family’s Pinot Gris “Réserve Personnelle” bottling is made from their oldest vines in their best parcels planted to this grape variety. The old vines have accrued just a bit more ripeness in 2018 and the wine, thus comes in at 14.5 percent octane this year. It offers up a refined bouquet of peach, tangerine, a touch of pineapple, a touch of pecan nuttiness, wheat chaff, a superb base of gently chalky soil tones and a topnote of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex with great depth of fruit at the core, fine soil signature, lovely acids and grip, seamless balance and a long, gently sweet finish. The heat of the summer of 2018 necessitated a touch of residual sweetness being left in this wine in this vintage, but it works beautifully and is highly preferable to a fifteen-plus percent alcohol wine, if it had been fermented to complete dryness. This is a beautiful bottle, with the sweetness level of a light Spätlese, great depth and stunning length and grip. 2026-2055.

Flinty reduction hovers on the nose of this wine like a promise of longevity. On the palate, residual carbon dioxide heightens freshness before ripe, yellow pear takes over. This wine is juicy and bold, with a lovely tone of saffron spice edged with a hint of zestiness. Despite its energy and power, the wine remains taut and linear. The textured midpalate maximizes the sense of drive on the dry finish. Drink to 2040. (AK)

This is pretty likely to be the best Pinot Gris that I have tasted in years. Literally! It is yummy and rich with a nice zesty finish. Initially, there are citrus flavors of ripe lemon and tart lime. These quickly give way to yellow orchard fruit, dominated by juicy pear with a hint of whipping cream. The finish is zippy with citrus and crunchy minerals. Elegant, lively and mouth filling. I can't really ask for anything more from this wine!
