Reviewed April 2025Wild strawberries, raspberries, spring flowers, and peppery, floral nuances all emerge from the 2023 Cairanne, a medium-bodied, elegant, seamless wine that will shine right out of the gate. This beauty is based on 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre, and while it offers ample pleasure in its youth, it should easily evolve for 10-12 years.

A dense, balanced and focused Cairanne with aromas of cherries, red berries and warm spices. Medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Driven and energetic, with spices and berries on the palate. Pulpy finish with some length. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

All from 80+ year old Grenache vines, this wine always shows great purity of fruit. Blueberry, cassis with notes of dried tobacco, this has a sweet and silky texture that feels quite sumptuous on the palate. Every year this is one of my favorite pure Grenaches.
Notes
Romain Roche took over the family property from his father Marcel in 2009. Romain is known for expressing the typicity of Cairanne, and oft-overlooked appellation deep in the Southern Rhône. Since leading the estate, Romain has become one of the key producers synonymous with the region. All from the oldest Grenache vines, most over 80 years old, this wine spends about a year aging in large tanks before bottling. It is the quintessential expression of Grenache from Cairanne and deserves a place in any wine collection.
