The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino comes from a warm but not extreme growing season, helped by timely rain and a normal harvest window. It pours a deep ruby red hue and opens with black raspberries, violets, fresh earth, licorice, and rosemary. Medium to full-bodied, it feels more vertical and energetic than the 2020, with a bright spine of acidity, well-defined tannins, and a long, focused finish that stays light on its feet. Drink 2026-2040. (JD)

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino is an understated beauty, mixing dusty rose and lavender with shavings of blood orange and black cherries. It is surprisingly juicy yet elegant and refined, as ripe wild berry fruits slowly drench the palate in primary concentration. Structured and dramatically long, the 2021 finishes spicy and intense with nuances of citrus, clove and licorice. The complexity here is off the charts and the energy is incredible. (EG)

The 2021 is sleek, defined, and incredibly pure. The nose offers a precise beam of dark cherry, black raspberry, and the estate’s signature balsamic note—a mix of wild mint and savory herbs. On the palate, it is medium-to-full-bodied with a texture that is pure silk. The tannins are polished to a high sheen, supporting a core of vibrant fruit that lingers on the finish. It’s a Brunello of immediate pleasure that will also age effortlessly for a decade. A smart, sophisticated buy.

Notes

The 2021 "White Label" is a brilliant and linear expression of Sangiovese, reflecting the balanced yet energetic character of the 2021 vintage. The nose is vibrant and dark, offering scents of small berries, bay leaf, and sage layered with complex notes of juniper and balsamic herbs. On the palate, it is surprisingly juicy and elegant, balancing a rich core of red fruit with splendid, enlivening tannins and a striking verticality. The finish is impressively long and spicy, showing a clean mineral intensity that marks it as one of the most precise "standard" bottlings in recent years. A high-finesse Brunello that combines immediate approachability with significant aging potential.
