Reviewed May 2013The esteemed Hyde Vineyard is in Carneros, and is the source for some incredible Syrahs from winemakers like Joseph Phelps and the Hyde Vineyard label itself, and Mira now joins that list. The wine is wonderful. Made from 100% Syrahl, offering rich, dense waves of blackberry and blueberry jam, chocolate, peppercorn and vanilla.

The 2009 Hyde Syrah from Mira is a potent wine with lots of ripe, rich fruit—boysenberry, smoked plum, and black cherry. With time aging in bottle, the wine has developed lovely notes of saddle leather, dried herbs, and hints of steak tartare with aged balsamic. It’s in a great place right now, where the plush fruit and texture remain generous, while complex secondary characters are beginning to fill in as the wine’s maturity shows beautifully. How fun to be able to enjoy a perfectly aged wine, direct from the winery’s cellar, at such a modest price. If you love wines with a nice amount of age on them, this is an offer you won’t want to miss. Limited availability.
