Bright, lifted, so clean and smooth, silky almost but creamy too with a nice weight and texture to the fine, softly powdery tannins. Generous and well controlled with some savoury liquorice and wet stone tang that gives accent and nuance. Lovely acidity and just an excellent expression with delicacy, control and appeal. Really very drinkable, floral, fruity with a gentle salty, savoury undercurrent. A top buy. (GH)

Rocking levels of red and black fruits, leafy tobacco, and damp herbs define the 2022 Château Lamothe-Bergeron, a medium-bodied, polished, and elegant Cru Bourgeois. With hints of leather developing with time in the glass, it has fine tannins, terrific balance, and a great finish.

This has good depth through the mid palate, supple with waves of cocoa bean, liquorice, brooding blackcurrant, cinnamon, crayon and cloves. Delivers plenty of personality, a solid choice in the vintage offering good value. Hubert de Boüard consultant. 62% aged in barrels, 13% in 400l oak casks, 25% in amphoras and stainless steel vats.

Dark olives, tapenade and spiced dark cherries on the nose. Fine-grained on the palate, with a medium to full body and a nicely chewy finish that shows some sappy wood tannins at the end. Merlot and cabernet sauvignon. This needs time to soften and come around. Drink from 2028.

One of our favorite under-the-radar value producers, Lamothe-Bergeron, elevated their game even further in 2022. Located between St-Julien and Margaux, Lamothe-Bergeron delivers exactly the kind of Cabernet-led, Left Bank value that savvy Bordeaux buyers love: undeniably delicious yet complex, with classic Médoc character. The 2022 vintage provides remarkable accessibility without sacrificing depth, as layers of deep red and black fruit cover the palate, accented by notes of tobacco and lifted by enough acidity to carry the fruit through a long finish. Polished, refreshing, and already highly enjoyable, this is a bottle that should age well, though I imagine it will be hard to resist pulling corks now. A top value selection and another winner from both the 2022 vintage and Lamothe-Bergeron.
