2024 Odjfell "Armador" Carménère Valle Central
Review Date: 05/2026
Every so often I am craving a red with savory, vegetal characteristics that you find in grapes with higher pyrazine counts, like Carménère. You can't really find a better value Carménère than this one right here. Being the varietal that put great Chilean wines on the map, the small percentage of Carignan blended in makes for wonderful balance, and this bottle shows inviting purple fruit, a bit of licorice and is punched with that signature peppery flavor element that is sought after in this variety.

Notes
Odjfell is a family project that started when Norwegian shipowner, Dan Odfjell, came to Chile in the late 1980s and fell in love with Maipo Valley. Captivated by its beauty and potential, he thus set out to craft distinctive wines that respect and honor the land. The Armador line — named for the Spanish word for “ship owner” and inspired by the winery’s seafaring roots — is the original range from Odfjell, launched in 1999. Their Armador Carménère is a standout example of Chile’s signature red grape. Blended with a small percentage of Carignan and fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel, this wine is a vibrant, fruit forward expression.
