2023 Zind-Humbrecht Turckheim Gewürztraminer Alsace
92
James Suckling
Review Date: 05/2025I love the juicy, exotic fruit and flower aromas of this rather succulent, medium-bodied Gewurz. The touches of bitterness and licorice are well integrated in the dry finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now.

Email ElizabethThis Gewurztraminer, meaning "perfumed Traminer" or "spiced Traminer," lives up to its name. A powerful nose of jasmine, violet, and lychee gives way to a medium-bodied, dry and aromatic wine. If floral wines are not your bag, I'd swiftly steer you in a different direction. The finish is long and soft, and while the floral nature of the bottle is what some might call heavy-handed, it is otherwise dry and delicate. I found myself craving something warm and rich to go with this. Perhaps a Thai curry? If this wine was a film, it would be Franco Zeffirelli's 'Romeo and Juliet' [1968]--nostalgic, romantic, and full of flowers.

Email AaronWell, here I am, drinking potpourri again. This time, though, I will admit I don't mind that I'm drinking potpourri, it's delicious but it definitely is what it is. A medley of rose, white flowers, jasmine, honeysuckle, and white tea, this is definitely for someone who wants a pretty and floral wine. The palate is also very floral, there's some fruit here but it's really kind of drowned out by the overall feeling of drinking a delightful dry white wine, with a phenolic slightly bitter finish, while a florist is violently but ineffectively attacking you with bouquets to the face, or more simply: It's a lot of fun, and I'd drink it again. This wine scratches a very particular itch and I really could see myself enjoying this with some cheese or the right schnitzel.
