Int'l Wine Review

The 2023 Holocene Aureolin Chardonnay from the Eola-Amity Hills glows with a pale golden hue, shimmering at the rim. The nose is alive with crushed stone, wet flint, and wild alpine herbs, lifted by crisp pear and preserved lemon. On the palate, the interplay of tension and texture is masterful: vibrant acidity cuts through layers of orchard fruit and citrus zest while a fine mineral thread runs seamlessly from start to finish. Each sip expands with depth, revealing hints of chamomile and subtle salinity, before tapering into a finish of extraordinary length and finesse. This is an elegant yet powerful Chardonnay, one that commands attention with its purity, drive, and balance. Editor’s choice.

Owen Bargreen

A world-class wine, the 2024 Holocene ‘Aureolin’ Chardonnay was sourced from the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Made in a reductive style, this was stored for 9 months in 50% new oak, stainless and neutral oak, including feuillettes. Freshly cut limes and salted nectarine skin fill the palate alongside suggestions of baking spice laced pastry crust and crushed seashells on the palate. Very salty and savory, with a seamless texture, this glides throughout the drinking experience. A total beauty, enjoy now and over the next ten plus years. Drink 2025-2037

Wine Enthusiast

The brilliant yellow hue of Aureolin is a bat signal to alert the world to the existence of another fantastic Eola-Amity Hills Chardonnay. The wine feels lithe and nimble as it dances across the palate, spurred on by brisk acidity. Aromas and flavors of tart lemon, marzipan, honeysuckle wet stones and green tea make a lasting impression. Enjoy for the next 15 years.

Decanter

The Chardonnays from Todd Alexander’s Holocene are demonstrably compelling; the Aureolin shows great reduction and rich umami character. It spends nine months in a mixture of steel, new and neutral oak barrels, including the small format, feuillettes. It was allowed to oxidise at crush and made with a reductive approach. Rich, smoky grilled lemon wedges, oyster brine, and verbena complement Moroccan preserved lemons, candied ginger, and smoked cardamom. Delicious.
