2024 Carl Loewen Alte Reben Riesling Trocken (dry) Mosel
95
James Suckling
Review Date: 10/2025This is an unusual entry-level wine. The cool side of the peach notes makes itself very clearly felt, pulling you into a web of intense, slatey minerality. Very stony finish, although the acidity is moderate. Excellent aging potential. From vines up to 70 years old. Vegan. Drink or hold.

91pts Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 23 25. The 2024er Riesling Alte Reben is a just off-dry wine (with 10 g/l of residual sugar) made from very old vines planted between 1949 and 1962, mostly situated in the Leiwener Klostergarten and for a tiny part in the Detzemer Würzgarten, and was partially fermented in old Fuder. It offers a superb nose made of white peach, grapefruit zest, herbs, and fine spices. The wine is juicy and nicely precise on the palate and leaves a great feel of fresh herbs and citrus fruits in the long and currently still quite tart finish. This is a juicy expression of dry-tasting Riesling. 2026-2034."(09/2025)
