This is an unusual entry-level wine. The cool side of the peach notes makes itself very clearly felt, pulling you into a web of intense, slatey minerality. Very stony finish, although the acidity is moderate. Excellent aging potential. From vines up to 70 years old. Vegan. Drink or hold.

The 2024 Riesling Alte Reben was made from 50- to 70-year-old vines in the Longuicher Herrenberg and Leiwener Klostergarten. A lemon-scented Mirabelle sorbet aroma makes for a most inviting and enticing nose. Suppleness is central on the palate. The Mirabelle sorbet turns into creaminess, with all its sunny, lemony fruit. It shines with freshness and ripeness while remaining beautifully svelte. This Riesling is a lovely expression of 2024. (Dry)(AK)

Aromas of lime preserves and dried apple rest on a foundation of sorghum and chrysanthemum in this solidly built Riesling. The palate is dense yet graceful as this elegantly coasts through the long finish, which deftly interlaces its savory and stone notes with bright fruit. Drink now through 2038.—K.B.

This is a very unique and special wine. It's difficult to believe it's actually dry as there is so much delicious fruit extract. It bursts with richness and loads of delicious tropical fruit flavors. Excellent acidity adds freshness and length. Impressive.

Really clean and pure-fruited nose for a Riesling, no petrol to speak of yet probably something that will evolve as the wine ages under cork. Right now it's just really clean with this bright pear, ripe peach, yellow kiwi, and white flowers. The palate is incredibly crisp and super delicious with mouthwatering acidity and echoes of the nose in the fruit. This drinks so well and it great for people who want something a little bit more of a crowd pleaser, but still offering something of impeccable quality and craft. Fantastic stuff and a stand out in the tasting today.

Notes

91pts Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 23 25. The 2024er Riesling Alte Reben is a just off-dry wine (with 10 g/l of residual sugar) made from very old vines planted between 1949 and 1962, mostly situated in the Leiwener Klostergarten and for a tiny part in the Detzemer Würzgarten, and was partially fermented in old Fuder. It offers a superb nose made of white peach, grapefruit zest, herbs, and fine spices. The wine is juicy and nicely precise on the palate and leaves a great feel of fresh herbs and citrus fruits in the long and currently still quite tart finish. This is a juicy expression of dry-tasting Riesling. 2026-2034."(09/2025)
