The 2022 Fixin Les Crais was taken from tank and contains around 30% stems, which impart darker fruit than the Les Clos: blackberry and raspberry, more sous-bois character here. The medium-bodied palate has pliant tannins, fleshy and beautifully balanced with cashmere tannins and a dab of white pepper and clove towards the finish. More Premier than Village Cru in quality. Les Crais is consistently among my favourite wines in this cellar, and the 2022 is no exception, with its deep colour, ripe, plummy fruit, and mineral depth. The texture is silky yet firmly tannic, with a lingering finish that showcases the cask ageing (20% new) at this point. Berthaut has recently pulled up 0.3 hectares, leaving her a hectare in this vineyard in alluvial soils at the base of the slope below the village. She has fermented this with 30% whole clusters to give added complexity; the wine should drink well on release and age well over the mid-term. (CC)

Already bottled, the 2022 Fixin Les Crais derives from stony, alluvial soils that always produce a charming, demonstrative style of wine, and that's the case this year. Offering up aromas of sweet cherries, berries and plums mingled with orange zest and petals, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and perfumed, with a suave, succulent profile that belies its aging potential. Just bottled. 30% whole bunch vinification, 20% new wood. Rich deep purple, with a nose which is slightly disturbed by the bottling. But there is a fine energy here, oak showing a little at the moment but will certainly integrate, a good depth of a darker raspberry fruit to finish.
