2024 Burn Cottage "Moonlight Race" Pinot Noir Central Otago
96
James Suckling
Review Date: 10/2025Prevalent aromas of ripe strawberries and sliced oranges with peel. Limes and polished stones as well. It’s medium-bodied with creamy, refined tannins and a caressing finish. Very pretty. From organically grown grapes.

Notes
Founded by Americans Marquis and Dianne Sauvage on land they purchased in Central Otago 2002, Burn Cottage was developed into a biodynamically-farmed Pinot Noir powerhouse with guidance from Littorai winemaker Ted Lemon. Their estate vineyard in Lowburn was one of the first in the region to be developed from bare land using strictly biodynamic farming principles. The winery follows a philosophy of minimal intervention, utilizing native yeasts, hand-harvesting, and French oak aging to ensure each vintage reflects the unique terroir of its schist and clay soils. Beyond its flagship estate Pinot Noir and single vineyard Pinot Noirs, the property functions as a diverse, self-sustaining farm system integrated with Highland cattle, beehives, and native flora, producing honest wines that are widely praised for their elegance, purity, and age-worthy complexity.
