Review Date: 12/2025Wow. This is an outstanding wine with plenty of complexity. Classic aromas of licorice, crushed stones, red cherries, wild strawberries, smoke, woodland and earth. Full-bodied, juicy, velvety and dense, with a long, savory finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2027. (AF)

The classy Fuligni 2020 Brunello Riserva is another gorgeous wine from this storied estate. Perfumed and loaded with finesse, it opens with inviting aromas of violet, fine pipe tobacco, wild berry and a whiff of new leather. Showing the winery’s trademark of extreme elegance, the palate captivates with baked plum, raspberry compote, star anise and bitter orange before closing on a hint of vanilla. Velvety tannins provide seamless support while fresh acidity keeps it impeccably balanced. (KO)

Pouring a deeper ruby red hue, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Centenario Fuligni has a riper, more fruit-driven profile on the nose, with black raspberries, baked red cherries, dark stones, rosemary, and refined resinous tones. The palate is medium to full-bodied and broad-shouldered, with ripe tannins and an expansive texture, and on a second tasting, a subtle note of worn leather folds in nicely. It’s the top selection of the vintage here and should drink beautifully with time. Drink 2026-2050.

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, which marks the winery's 100th anniversary, mixes masses of dried black cherries with dusty cedar spice box, an air of tobacco, worn leather and mint. It is seamless in feel, with silken depths of ripe red berry fruits as crisp mineral tones and hints of citrus build tension toward the close. Staining, chewy and long, the 2020 reveals its heroic structure as nuances of blood orange create a lovely punctuation under an air of rosy inner florals. Quite backward today, it will pay dividends in the cellar.

This is a historic bottling, marking a century of the Visconti Fuligni family's stewardship of this incredible land (1923-2023). To celebrate this milestone, the estate has released a Riserva from the warm and generous 2020 vintage that captures the sheer joy and generosity of Montalcino.
Where the 2019 is stern and classic, the 2020 "Centenario" is opulent and welcoming. The warmth of the vintage has given this wine a luscious, velvety texture that is simply irresistible. The nose is explosive, bursting with ripe black cherry, blackberry jam, exotic spices, and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, it is full-bodied and enveloping, with tannins that are round, ripe, and polished to perfection. It offers immediate gratification without sacrificing complexity. A fitting tribute to 100 years of excellence, and a wine that drinks beautifully right out of the gate.
