The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Cielo d'Ulisse is a jeweled ruby/magenta color and is pure and pristine, with notes of candied cherries, pressed flowers, sweet herbs, and fresh earth. On the palate, it offers good structure, ripe, well-defined tannins, and a long, pure finish. While it's very appealing now, it has the bones to age with ease over the next 10-15 years. (AF)

Vinous

Dried black cherries combine with brown spice, coffee grinds and a dusting of cocoa as the dark and brooding 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Cielo d'Ulisse emerges from the glass. It's silken in feel with vibrant acidity and cool-toned wild berry fruits that slowly saturate, offset by a tinge of sour citrus toward the close. Staining and long, the 2020 finishes classically structured with fine tannins and hints of sour cherry and licorice. 94+ (EG)

Black cherry, blackberry, earth and eucalyptus flavors highlight this beefy red. Sweet spices add grace notes, while the well-endowed tannins flex their muscles on the finish. Fresh and needs a year or two to harmonize. Best from 2027 through 2043. (BS)

Notes

The 2020 Cielo d'Ulisse is a vibrant and "luminous" expression of Sangiovese, hailing from the estate's isolated vineyards in the cooler, western limit of Montalcino. The nose is pure and pristine, offering notes of candied cherries, raspberries, and blood orange layered over delicate scents of fresh earth, eucalyptus, and wild flowers. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and vertical, balancing a juicy core of red fruit with fine, polished tannins and a striking saline minerality. The finish is long and refreshing, marked by savory nuances of licorice and a distinctive citrus-peel lift. A compelling and high-finesse Brunello that captures the cool-toned elegance and biodiversity of its unique forest-surrounded site.
