Reviewed February 2026
The estate makes two single-site bottlings from the neighbouring MGAs of Rabajà and Rabajà-Bas. Trying them side by side is a fascinating lesson in Barbaresco’s complex terroir. Slightly higher and southwest-facing, rather than fully west, Rabajà demonstrates a notch up in finesse and vibrancy – even in 2022. Aromas of sage, damp earth and brushwood carry over to the cranberry and redcurrant palate, demonstrating lovely flow and balance. This doesn’t have the richness or structural matrix of the greatest vintages, but it is a juicy and pretty edition. (MM)

Notes

The 2022 Rabajà is an extraordinarily polished and layered expression of one of Barbaresco’s most legendary crus, crafted by the talented Mario Andrion. The nose is deep and yielding, offering a refined blend of ripe raspberries, crushed mint, and red cherries accented by sophisticated notes of sandalwood, cinnamon, and tobacco. On the palate, it is densely packed yet supple, balancing a juicy, tactile fruit core with velvety tannins and a tangy acidity that provides a refreshing lift. The finish is long and harmonious, marked by a classic mineral underpinning and a savory, spicy persistence. A remarkably accessible and "drinkable" Rabajà from a warm vintage that maintains its signature elegance and structural precision.
