1999 Domaine de Jean-Bon 26 Year Old K&L Exclusive Bas Armagnac (750ml)

Review Date: 02/2026

This Armagnac greets you with a calm, measured presence, inviting you to take your time with the glass. Lively and approachable, it carries a gentle warmth that makes every sip easy and satisfying. On the palate, there's a subtle mix of orchard fruit, soft honey, and a touch of spice. The flavors unfold naturally, revealing nuance without ever feeling forced. The finish is clean, smooth, and lingering, leaving just enough behind to draw you in for another taste. What makes this Armagnac particularly enjoyable is its balance: mature and polished, yet never heavy or overbearing. It's a bottle you can enjoy on a quiet evening alone or share with friends who appreciate subtlety. At 26 years old, it's easy to enjoy and even easier to come back to.

Notes

Domaine Jean-Bon was started by a family with three brothers, all of whom were named Jean. It turns out, however, that one of the Jeans was liked more than the other two, so they named the estate after him: Jean-Bon, or the “good” Jean. Jean-Bon produces about four to six barrels of Armagnac per year, all distilled from Baco, although they have now started working with a bit of Ugni Blanc. The Domaine is now run by the mother and daughter team of Béatrice and Clémence Lacourt. Their polyculture farm is about 50 hectares, with just 6.5 hectares devoted to vines. The style is pungent and aromatic, driven by savory Baco and local French oak. They do not reduce, and their dry cellar keeps alcohol levels high. The estate is one of the few where we regularly see alcohol levels increase over time as the concentration increases thru evaporation. Like all the Jean Bon Armagnacs, this particular vintage needs plenty of air to open up but will reward the patient drinker greatly.
