1982 Giacomo Conterno "Monfortino" Barolo Riserva
98
Vinous
The 1982 Barolo Riserva Monfortino is one of my very favorite Conterno wines. It is the first vintage I remember my father telling me it was ‘great.’ Tasted next to wines of its era and pedigree, the 1982 is wonderfully aromatic and persistent, with redder tonalities of fruit and medium-bodied structure. It is also remarkably nuanced. Over the last few years, I have started to think the 1982 is best enjoyed at its current peak. That’s not to say the 1982 won’t last for quite some time, it likely will, but I don’t see it getting materially better or more pleasurable than it is now. This is an especially fine magnum.
