Only 98 cases of the 2021 Romulus were made from old vine Petite Sirah. Opaque garnet-purple in color, it needs a lot of swirling and shaking to unlock very pure notes of crushed blackberries and black cherries, plus nuances of aniseed, black truffles, damp soil, and bay leaves. The super-rich, impactful, full-bodied palate is densely laden with black fruit and earthy layers, supported by firm, grainy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing very long and savory. It will need a good 5-7 years of cellaring, yet it should be well worth the wait. (LPB)
