Notes
Cayuse Vineyards began when French vigneron Christophe Baron discovered a field of softball-sized stones in Walla Walla in 1996—terrain that instantly reminded him of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and convinced him the site could yield profound Rhône-style wines. He planted Cailloux Vineyard in 1997, the first of his now five estate parcels rooted in the stony “Rocks District” terroir. Cailloux Syrah, co-fermented with small amounts of Viognier, has become Cayuse’s signature bottling, prized for its savory aromatics, smoked-meat complexity, and intense mineral drive. Production remains entirely estate-grown and low-yield, with Baron’s meticulous, hands-on farming delivering some of the most distinctive Syrah in the Northwest.
