James Suckling
Reviewed May 2024Restrained almond, lemon leaf and citrus aromas follow through to the palate. The attack is soft, with a silky mousse, zesty acid and a lean body. Polished finish, silky and creamy, not without tension. Disgorged 2023. Drink or hold.

Wine Enthusiast
Peach, pear and white mushroom appear on a well-balanced nose that is very attractive, albeit less intense than some others. This sparkler delivers fine and persistent perlage, toasted flavors and a silky mouthfeel. Imported by Blavod Extreme Spirits.

Wine Advocate
Tasted from magnum, the Contadi Castaldi NV Franciacorta Brùt (the accent on the "u" is intentional) is a blend of 80% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Nero and 10% Pinot Bianco that sees partial malolactic fermentation and some barrique aging. This is a big production of 750,000 bottles, with fruit selected from across the estate's 160 hectares of vines. It offers a classic Franciacorta bouquet with a bright citrusy element and crushed stone followed by lightly baked aromas of pastry and bread.

Vinous
The NV Franciacorta Brut mixes tropical citrus with sesame seeds and nuances of crushed stone. Vibrant and round in feel, it has juicy acidity and crisp mineral tones that elevate its core of ripe orchard fruits. It tapers off with excellent length, leaving the senses completely refreshed.

Notes
The Contadi Castaldi Brut is a lively and versatile Franciacorta crafted from a blend of 80% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Nero, and 10% Pinot Bianco. The nose is fresh and expressive, offering notes of white peach, lime blossom, and citrus with a unique hint of green pepper. On the palate, it is crisp and "vertical," featuring a fine, persistent perlage and a savory, mineral core. The finish is clean and lingering, with subtle nuances of toasted bread and almond. A refined, high-energy sparkler that serves as a perfect, sophisticated alternative to Champagne.
