A terrific Saint-Emilion in the making, the 2022 Château Haut-Brisson excels in the vintage. Giving up lots of smoky red and black fruits, graphite, and leather on the nose, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, nicely balanced mouthfeel, quality tannins, and outstanding length.

A blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Haut-Brisson reveals aromas of dark berries, spices and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent palate framed by powdery tannins and concluding with a long, saline finish. The 2022 Haut-Brisson is a sensual, mysterious wine. Soft contours wrap around a core of black cherry, mocha, lavender, licorice and cedar. This open-knit, vibrant Saint-Émilion is surprisingly restrained for the year. (AG)
