Reviewed July 2025The 2023 Pinot Noir Summa Vineyard is a youthful ruby color and is expressive out of the gate, with notes of anise, grenadine, fresh cherries, fresh floral perfume, and toasted earth. Medium-bodied, it floats on the palate with refreshing, even acidity, well-defined tannins, and a long, stony texture that floats on the finish. (AF) 96+

This is alluring, with a mix of blackberry, cherry and raspberry coulis flavors that ripple with understated energy, while a subtle mulled edge emerges through the rose water–, red tea– and savory-flecked finish. The fruit is so persistent that you almost miss the underlying structure, which should carry this nicely in the cellar. (JM)

The 2023 Pinot Noir Summa Vineyard is one of the more overtly structured wines in the range. Brisk acids and beams of supporting tannin give the 2023 a decidedly old-school feel that is quite attractive. Readers who find the Rivers-Marie Pinots on the fruitier side will find a wine of notable restraint and energy here.
