Decanter
Reviewed October 2024Pierre Vincent's first village-level Monthélie, Les Sous Roches delivers richness and depth, with aromas of ripe pear, hazelnut and hawthorn flowers. The texture is rich but not decadent, with enough balancing acidity to give the wine surprising elegance and length. The grapes are from old vines near the top of the slope, not far from Les Duresses, where Vincent has begun organic conversion. They are gently pressed as whole clusters before fermentation in used casks. This wine is perfect for drinking on release and should improve with mid-term cellaring. (CC)

Vinous
Vincent's 2023 Monthélie Les Sous-Roches, now in bottle, has an understated bouquet that gradually opens with aeration, that sea cave scent still in situ with hints of tangerine in the background. The palate is armed with a silver thread of acidity and perhaps less of a sour lemon component than it had out of barrel, displaying fine weight and composure on the finish. This is a top-notch Monthélie. (NM)

White marl soil. Very pale in colour, with a nose which shows the limestone character. On the leaner side, but then there is a coating of a citrus sucrosity on top of the bone structure. One new barrel in six. The flavours do linger very nicely.

Burghound
Decidedly cool aromas of Granny Smith apple, acacia and a plenitude of citrus elements are complemented by succulent, caressing and lightly stony flavors that possess a more refined texture while displaying good if not special length on the very dry but not really austere bitter zest-inflected finish.
