James Suckling
Reviewed September 2025Brooding and exotic, this full-bodied, powerful wine shows minty, pine-forest aromas along with guavas, redwood bark and violets. Plush yet structured with flavors of mountain blueberries, wild blackberries and plums. Very layered and complex with wonderful black-fruit purity and chalky tannins. Drink after 2026. (CH)

Wine Advocate
Matured for 16 months in 69% new French oak, the 2023 Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard has compelling aromas of blackberry, raspberry and blueberry jam plus nuances of lavender, sage, blood orange and iron. The medium-bodied palate is sapid and layered with flavors that range from wild berries to flowers and tea. It’s framed by velvety tannins and bright acidity and has a long, perfumed finish. It should be long lived in the cellar. (EB)

Wine Spectator
This offers a lovely, caressing feel as violet, hibiscus, anise, blood orange, mulberry and boysenberry notes flow through generously. Everything is in alignment, with subtle, lingering, juicy energy holding the finish. Thoroughly delicious. Drink now through 2036. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. (JM)
Notes
Williams Selyem Winery began as a simple dream between two friends, Ed Selyem and Burt Williams, who pursued weekend winemaking as a hobby in 1979 in a garage in Forestville, California, and made their first commercial vintage in 1981. As friends, they decided to make a go of winemaking together in a two-car garage on River Road. The concrete pad outside held the small dairy tanks that they used as fermenters. The rest is history!
