All varietal, the 2023 Syrah En Cerise Vineyard is meaty in lavender and pretty in cherry blossom, medium-bodied and well-balanced in funky acidity. From a densely planted vineyard, it's brooding in oak and tannin, with lasting salinity, with additional components of peat, chamomile, and sanguine iron. I love these wines and this is a particular standout. Hold and drink 2030-2043.

Int'l Wine Review

The 2023 Cayuse En Cerise Vineyard Syrah from Walla Walla Valley draws remarkable depth from this unique vineyard site, delivering a wine of breadth and lift that feels feral, yet exquisitely controlled. Raised with a modest touch of new French oak, it opens with smoked meat, asphalt, cured leaf tobacco, and preserved black plum, all threaded through a dense seam of crushed rock. The texture is generous and full-bodied, yet the wine never turns heavy, its vivid acidity and tensile mineral spine keeping the richness in check. As it unfolds, darker notes of blackberry, blue plum, forest floor, shaved black truffle, olive brine, and roasted game emerge, giving the wine a haunting earthbound complexity that recalls the fall in southern France, but more in spirit than imitation. A dish such as cassoulet with duck confit would suit it beautifully, since the wine’s savory depth, saline minerality, and ample extract can meet the dish’s richness while refreshing the palate. Monumental now and built for extended evolution, this is a profound, intensely site-marked Syrah. About 400 cases made. Highly recommended.

The 2023 ’En Cerise Vineyard’ Syrah comes from a 10 acre parcel planted back in 1998 that was formerly a cherry orchard. The wine was stored in a small amount of new French oak barrels before bottling. It gives of a Jamet-level of fruit purity, with serious tension and a fat mouthfeel. Bacon fat, tar, sweet pipe tobacco and boysenberry compote flavors all combine with copious stony minerals, with salted charcuterie notes on the palate. With more air the sous bois and black truffle crudo undercurrents emerge. Quite literally a meal in a glass, with serious savory, stony and Umami character, enjoy this stunning wine now and over the next ten plus years. Drink 2026-2036

Leading with barnyard-like reductive aromas, this takes a while to open, showing mainly the savory side of syrah, including smoked meat, peppered beef jerky and a hint of violets and lavender. Flavors of juicy raspberries and wild blackberries mingle with thyme and sage. Decant and drink now.
