Rare Character continues its string of successes, offering an unbelievable array of curated single casks which never fail to impress. The model was always pretty straight forward, find awesome casks, let customers pick their favorites, put a custom label on. Now there are 10s or 100s of individual lots and expressions each with their own unique code and each barrel within those lots bottled under a unique label. The undertaking is rather quite awe inspiring, ultimately what's made customers keep coming back is that ever bottle delivers a unique and always excellent experience. This lot of high proof bourbons has the internal refrence of HF meaning High Floors. It's a mashbill of 78% corn, 13% rye, and 9% malted barley, which strongly implies this to be a Beam product, but doesn't exclude a couple of other sources. What's interesting is that it doesn't nose or taste much like the standard Beam products. Let's have at it. The color is a lovely tawny (1.4). The nose is big and dusty with huge dried stone fruit piled on pecan caramel crunch. It's really extremely sweet and forward on the nose, showing none of the high proof, but instead offering fudge-y Belgian praline, dried apricots, Seville orange peel, and stewed cherries. The entry is really red fruited - tons of cherries and strawberry candies - followed by dark chocolate and baking spice. A stupendous cask that drinks well beyond it's age and well below it's proof.
