A powerhouse of complexity, I wrote more descriptors on this Premier Cru than all the others. And there's not a bit of barrel influence here. It starts with hay, peak-season Vacherin Mont d'Or, fresh thyme and quinine. An arc of bracing acidity hovers over the palate, giving it tension and focus. This is built for the long-haul, if you give it the chance. Samuel's grandfather created the grafts for these 80-year-old vines, and his grandmother planted the vineyard.

Just bottled, after 18 months in tank. Not too dry and stony, though savoury in the best sense. Samuel’s Séchet is one of the great expressions of Left Bank Chablis, with its tightly wound finish and controlled salinity. Drink from 2028-2035. Tasted Jun 2025.

The 2023 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet Vieilles Vignes has turned out beautifully, offering aromas of lemon peel, white currants, fresh spring flowers and oyster juice. Medium- to full-bodied, its layered, chiseled palate exhibits ample chalky extract, mouthwatering acidity and a long, saline finish. Tasted from barrel, I wrote that it would delight purists, and I can attest to that promise now that it is bottled.(KK)

The 2023 Chablis Les Séchets 1er Cru has a detailed and mineral-driven bouquet that evokes images of the dark and stormy sea. This has wonderful salinity—it really benefits from no wood contact. The palate is old-school Chablis, with green apple and pear scents. It's a little strict, yet there is real depth and grip here. The 2023 is very complex and long on the finish, but it’s 100% Chablis in style. Outstanding.(NM)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Almost 100-year-old vines now – ‘from my grandmother’ – 161-49B rootstock for this, but at this age, no problems. All tank elevage – 18 months – for this one. So little of this in 2024 that wine-globes are now in use…The aromatic energy and vibrancy of the previous wines but here with extra volume. So direct. Cool, mineral and detailed that this is quite a strict wine – yet so large and again begging you to take your next sip. Wow !!"(01/2025)
