Very classic bright garnet color. Aromas of potpourri, dried cherries and licorice, then firm, ripe, velvety tannins, red fruit character and elegant acidity. It displays a medium body with good concentration for aging a couple of decades. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Bright ruby with an orange tinge and tasted from barrel, the 2020 Barolo Del Comune Di Serralunga D'Alba offers a lot of charm on the nose, with fruity and floral notes of wild strawberries, raspberries, preserved roses, and thyme. Approachable in its structure, its supple tannins are ripe and rounded, with a generous feel, and it’s light on its feet. It has a lot of finesse and elegance and will show its best in another two years and over the following 10. (AF)

Balsamic elements of juniper, eucalyptus and wild mountain scrub frame cherry and strawberry fruit in this firmly structured red. In the end, this is fresh and balanced yet needs a few years to consolidate. Best from 2028 through 2043. (BS)

Notes

The 2020 Giovanni Rosso "Serralunga" Barolo is an exceptional and classic expression of the powerful Serralunga d'Alba commune, highlighting the elegance and finesse achieved in this esteemed vintage. The nose is bright, complex, and high-toned, offering crystalline aromas of wild strawberry, Parma violet, and cinnamon, layered with deeper notes of incense, sweet leather, and blood orange peel. On the palate, it is medium-to-full bodied and exquisitely balanced, presenting a concentrated core of bright red fruit and earthy spice. The structure is defined by firm, dusty, and ultra-fine tannins that are tightly woven and extremely polished, supported by a vibrant, lifting acidity. The finish is long, pure, and savory, leaving a lingering note of flint and dark earth. This is a Barolo with both charm and structure; while approachable now due to its balance, it has the quintessential Serralunga power to age beautifully for decades.
