2024 Carl Loewen Longuicher Maximin Herrenberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs Mosel

James Suckling
Review Date: 10/2025Here’s proof that the Mosel can produce very great dry white wines. So cool and precise on the compact, medium-bodied palate, but the mineral power and racy energy are gigantic. Still very young. The wild rose and rose hip aromas steadily expand in the glass as this aerates. Enormously long and focused finish. From vines planted in 1902. Vegan. Drink or hold.

Notes
92pts Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 13 25. The Riesling 2024 Maximin Herrenberg GG, as it is referred to on the front label, comes from un-grafted vines planted in 1902 on a very steep and poor soil (situated above the vineyard planted in 1896) and was fermented spontaneously and aged on its gross lees in Fuder for 7 months. This wine offers a focused and remarkably complex nose made of herbs, bergamot, ginger, fine spices, and pear. It proves quite impactful on the juicy rather than bone-dry palate and leaves a multi-layered and intense feel in the long finish. The aftertaste is a touch rounder as usual but is beautifully complex and all about herbs and minerals wrapped into firm tartness at this stage. We would let this wine rest for a while to give it time to integrate and develop more focus. 2029-2039."(09/2025)
