This astonishing 2022 Chateauneuf has giant depth and concentration of black fruit aromas with notes of spices and dry earth, beneath which is a deep foundation of super-fine tannins. Very long, imposing finish with stacks of licorice and black olive character. Great aging potential. 92% grenache from vines planted in 1901 and 1902, with a small amount of white grape varieties inter-planted. Matured exclusively in concrete tanks. Bottled unfiltered. Drinkable now, but best from 2025. (SP)

With a reductive profile, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale, a blend of 95% Grenache Noir and the remaining portion from other authorized varieties in unknown proportions, exhales aromas of peony, iris, dark wild berries, flowers and mulberries. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless, it is characterized by ripe tannins and a broad, saline finish accented by peony notes and bright acids. This cuvée is a beautiful, expertly crafted Chateauneuf-du-Pape totally destemmed and matured entirely in concrete tanks. This is a real gem. (YC)

Raised in concrete, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Impériale Vignes Centenaires is gorgeous. Wafting from the glass with prominent spice box, black cherry, black plum and raspberry alongside minty shadings, the 2022 packs terrific focus and inner energy. Balanced by refreshing acidity and tightly structured, it should see its 20th birthday in excellent shape. (NG)
