Shallow soils, planted in the 1980s, this own-rooted McMinnville AVA site in the western foothills offers minuscule yields. Phylloxera has taken a toll on the vines, but the wines show a real beauty. Aromas frame elegant florals, with ample tannin and acidity, complementing one another. ‘The stuffing matches the acidity, ’ says winemaker Grant Coulter. With tart red fruits, wild strawberries, and a savoury, almost exotic spice blend. (CP)
