Coming from a single parcel in the Pisoni Vineyard in the southern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands, the 2023 Syrah Susan's Hill pours a deep purple hue and reveals a Cornas-like nose of black and blue fruits, bouquet garni, ground pepper, and violets. This rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated Syrah has a round, layered mouthfeel, ripe yet present tannins, and a great finish. Made with 80% whole cluster and aged 22 months in foudre, it will drink brilliantly over the coming 15 years or more.

From the highest ridge in the vineyard, this block expression is immensely structured, a skeleton with impressive posture, muscle and density. Steeped black tea, birch and blood as well as iron, venison and tapenade add savoriness to black cherries and plums. Best after 2028 and for decades.
