This charming village-level Chablis is a faithful (and delicious) reflection of the 2023 growing season in Chablis, featuring ripe aromas of white peach and nectarine, a hint of hawthorn flowers, and a suggestion of spice. The wine is a true cuvée ronde, reflecting the entire appellation, since Benoît Droin blended it from 40 parcels that total 9.33ha. The grapes are fermented on native yeasts and aged in stainless-tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit. This wine will drink well on release.(CC)

Aromas of apples, peach, toasted nuts and iodine introduce the 2023 Chablis Village, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and suave wine that's round and seamless, concluding with a sapid finish. Benoît Droin's immensely dependable wines are among the most consistent in the region, and to my palate, the combination of Diam closures and élevages employing recently used and, indeed, occasionally new wood (though only up to 10%) means that these wines need a few years in bottle to show their best. But everything invariably comes together to impressive effect, and the wines age very gracefully indeed. Farming is conventional at this 26-hectare domaine; but the soils are cultivated mechanically, and synthetic treatments are kept to a minimum. Harvest is early and is partially mechanized, followed by fermentation and élevage in stainless steel and wood, with the proportions varying according to the cuvée.(WK)

Mineral reduction and citrus dominate the more complex and slightly freshy nose at present. There is equally good freshness and energy to the delicious, rich and sappy medium weight flavors that possess better depth and persistence on the balanced finale. This should drink well young as well as with 2 to 4 years of keeping.

All kimmeridgian. Pale colour, much more depth to the fruit than the Petit Chablis. But this is honeyed with yellow plums and tropical fruit before the salinity returns. Attractive in its style Drink from 2025-2028. Tasted Jun 2024.
