Review Date: 01/2026Part of this cuvée, made of three parcels, comes from blue clay soils that tend to produce reduction. However, there is none present now, allowing the wine to show a peacock-like array of vivid flavors: peach fuzz, cherimoya, toasted hazelnuts and warm, wet rocks. The vines range in age from 20 to over 60 years old.

The 2024 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru Hommage à Louis (the name is now officially ratified by the authorities) has the best aromatics among the Grand Crus, with more mineralité and intensity. Wet limestone and sea cave aromas burst from the glass. The palate is vibrant with energy and tension. It has a light reduction that Droin attributes to the blue clay soils and a complex, persistent finish. The 2024 is excellent!(NM)

Note: from a 1.4 ha holding in Les Clos; please see the explanation for the name change in the introduction above. A citrus and mineral reduction-tinged nose is comprised mostly of green fruit, iodine and oyster shell nuances. The palate impression is much like that of the Valmur as the big-bodied flavors are dense and muscular while exhibiting excellent power on the borderline aggressively stony, sappy, very dry and youthfully austere finale. As is virtually always the case, this is very much built-to-age and a wine that is going to need at least some bottle aging.

40% oak for Les Clos, which retains its Hommage à Louis soubriquet. A bright pale colour. Subtly perfumed on the nose, white flowers in full summer, excellent marine freshness at the finish, understated but fine and persistent. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Jun 2025.
