Distilled in Denver from heritage Abruzzi rye on a custom-built three-chamber still, this whiskey revives a 19th-century distillation method once prized for producing rich, aromatic rye spirits of unusual texture. Todd Leopold worked with engineers and historians to recreate the still from original patent drawings, marking the first operating example in the world in over a century. The whiskey is mashed with floor-malted barley, fermented with open-air native yeast, and distilled at low proof to capture the full character of the grain. After nine years in heavily charred oak barrels, this cask-strength release represents the culmination of the project’s ambition to bring back a vanished style of American whiskey.
