2024 Mas de Libian "Khayyam" Côtes-du-Rhône
Notes
The Thibon family acquired the Libian property in 1670, and in 1970 Jean-Pierre Thibon decided to wholly focus on wine production. Since then the estate has grown to 25 hectares of vineyards and 8 hectares of "nourishing" land planted to olive trees, vegetable and flower gardens, and grains to support the organic and biodynamic viticulture. Mas de Libian began its biodynamic farming in 2005 and was shortly certified by Demeter afterwards. The "Khayyam" is named for the 11th century Persian poet and mathematician who wrote poems celebrating wine and women. Khayyam is all from red clay soils covered in galets (round river stones). It is a blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah. All destemmed, the wine is fermented in tank and then aged for 9 months in large oak foudres. Perfumed with gorgeous aromatics, this is a special bottling that will linger and last on the palate like a poem. *Biodynamic*
