Reviewed January 2025Note: from .20 ha parcel; note that Gros uses the atypical spelling of Maupertuis, e.g., with an "s". An unusually perfumed nose, at least for Clos de Vougeot, reflects notes of red cherry, dark raspberry and newly turned humus-tinged earth. Like the Clos des Réas, the mouthfeel of the middle weight flavors is decidedly generous if not especially dense, all wrapped in a punchy, detailed and youthfully austere finale that is slightly firmer.

The 2023 Clos de Vougeot le Grand Maupertui Grand Cru has another quite toasty, hickory-tinged bouquet that rather obscures the terroir. The palate is medium-bodied with some reduction and moderate depth, though it needs some more delineation and brightness toward the finish, which feels a bit heavy compared to others. Wait and see.(NM)
