50% new wood is used for the 1er Cru vineyards. Glowing ruby purple with a heavenly perfume like the village but more intense. Darker fruit behind, some wood tannins again, and very good length. One change in vinification at this domaine is no longer to heat the tanks during post-fermentation maceration, thus improving purity and precision. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Mar 2025.

Vinous

The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has quite an expressive nose, with black cherries, fresh fig and light licorice scents gradually emerging—though its 50% new oak is quite vocal. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, finely balanced with (again) the new oak shaping the mid-palate and finish. There is a good Aux Brûlées here, though you'll have to wait for the oak to be assimilated.(NM)

Note: 35+ year old vines that abut their parcel of Richebourg in Verroilles. Top notes of kirsch and jasmine tea adds interest to the ripe aromas of mostly poached plum scents. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the acceptably concentrated medium weight flavors that flash good minerality on the youthfully austere, dusty and sneaky long finish where a more subtle hint of asperity appears.

Notes

Pierre Gros explains, “It was a relatively easy vintage, quite warm, though not as much sunshine as 2022. July and August were slightly less sunny than average, quite cool at the beginning of August. The quantity was huge, so we had to do a lot of green harvesting in all our parcels. We removed around one-third of the bunches, but it was quite heterogeneous. You could find between 15 to 20 bunches per vines when usually we have 8 to 10. We started picking on September 10 and it took quite a long time, six and a half days each for the Côte de Nuits and Haute Côtes. Everything is destemmed and the wines will stay in barrel until mid-April next year.”-NM
