Gigantic concentration, elegance and finesse. The smokiness floats like a cloud over the deep dark waters of this unique wine. The spiciness is so delicate and fascinating, and although the texture is super silky, the dark minerality gives this an almost supernatural intensity in the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

The 2023 Riesling Rangen de Thann Clos Saint Urbain Grand Cru is from this steep, iconic site in the far south of Alsace. Smokiness mixes with notions of green citrus on the nose, aromatic, vivid, enticing and lifted. The palate is pure, crystalline, chiseled, uncompromising and precise. This is long, pervasive and energetic, always with that gorgeous smokiness. If you can imagine drinking stone, this is it, yet with a flowing charm. (Bone-dry) (AK)

Don't let the silky aspect of this wine fool you! It also has very generous acidity with green and yellow citrus fruit. Under all of that are some fantastic flavors of ginger spice and tart white peaches. In place of petrol scents is an extremely intriguing smoky scent that is neither too strong nor overpowering. It adds to the exotic intrigue of this bottling. This baby is built for the cellar. It will only get more complex and the acidity will mellow. I'm looking forward to pouring this for our customers today (4/11) to see what they think of it!

Some wines, you get this kind of aura from them and that's what I get as I take in the bouquet on this, it's just got this aura of something special. There's a depth and layering of the nose that is just fantastic, crazy alluring and really working for me right now. The palate has great breadth, really delightfully savory in the middle and then widening out with a long and deep acidity that pushes through the whole thing. This is crazy serious and it's honestly way too early to know how this will ultimately turn out, I just have this feeling it's going to be completely amazing with the right amount of time. I want to try this again in 20 years, can someone remind me when it's time?
