Michel Arnould "Fleur de Rose" Verzenay Grand Cru Brut Rosé Champagne
92
Jasper Morris
Review Date: 07/2024Although marked as non-vintage, this is 100% 2020. 2020 was yet another warm vintage, although the vines in some areas showed signs of heat stress, which has left some champagnes with green, almost vegetal aromas. There are no such issues here, and there is another solid release. The bouquet of crunchy-red currant is fresh and vibrant, complemented with aromas of tangerine and even some blackcurrant. The aromatics are packaged into a tidy, compact frame; this wine will benefit from a further 12 months in bottle to gain some positive development. The current release would benefit from another 12-18 months on yeast (this wine receives only minimal lees aging because of the recent surge in demand), even so very good indeed.
