Arkenstone’s story begins in 1988, when Ron and Susan Krausz acquired a rugged, volcanic slope high on Howell Mountain and spent years developing it with exacting care. Today, their organically farmed estate—set between roughly 1,400 and 1,650 feet on rocky volcanic soils—produces focused, age-worthy wines that reflect the mountain’s power and mineral edge, guided by Susan’s stewardship and the winemaking of Sam Kaplan.
