2023 Charles Père et Fille Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Beaune Blanc "Les Vignes de Deffend"
Notes
"Domaine Charles Père et Fils traces its roots back to 1900, when the family first planted vines in Burgundy. In 1980, François Charles’ son, Pascal Charles, joined the domaine and helped guide its modern evolution. Today, Pascal runs the estate alongside his daughter Pauline, continuing the family’s winemaking tradition across roughly 14 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, with holdings in Pommard, Volnay, and Meursault. Their "Les Vignes de Deffend" comes from a 1.5-hectare vineyard with vines averaging 35-40 years of age. The parcel is sustainably farmed to ensure the healthiest possible fruit, which is hand-harvested, partially destemmed (50%), and aged for one year in seasoned French oak barrels. The wine is an absolute delight, opening with beautiful aromas of white peach and delicate white flowers. On the palate, it expands with vibrant orchard fruit and subtle spice, carried by impressive balance and texture. As the wine unfolds, layers of complexity emerge, finishing with a long, lingering note of fruit, crushed stone, and gentle spice. Fans of white Burgundy will find much to love here and will appreciate the reminder that excellent white Burgundy doesn’t have to break the bank." - Alex Pross, Burgundy Buyer
