2023 Domaine Weinbach Schlossberg Riesling Grand Cru Alsace

James Suckling
Review Date: 05/2025The poised balance of concentration, stony elegance and youthful freshness makes this great Alsace dry riesling as delightful as it is compelling. As it aerates, you come closer to the soul of the peach. There’s nothing dramatic about this beauty, but let yourself sink into the long, extremely refined finish and you won’t miss the huge statement it makes. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drinkable now, but best from 2026.

Notes
96pts Ian d'Agata Wine Review: "Now this is a knockout. Good full yellow. Orange marmelade, rose water, apricot, yellow peach and sweet spices plus a refreshing hint of talcum powder and slate on the nose and palate. Long clean and fresh, this remarkably well-delineated wine (5.3 g/L total acidity and 3.3 g/L r.s.) is at once very beautiful and powerful. This vintage, the grapes were harvested later than usual (in October) because Eddy felt there was too much malic acid in the grapes; you can easily tell these grapes were later harvested than usual, with a very strong and obvious presence of norisoprenoid molecules on the nose. Really beautiful wine that is ready to drink but will last in a good cellar. Drinking window: 2026-2038."(11/2025)
