The 2023 Microcósmico Macabeo comes from old vines on limestone soils, showing the character of the grape, with austerity, clout and power. It has more structure, not necessarily weight, and a very tasty finish with a bitter twist. It has a moderate 12.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.21 and 5.89 grams of acidity. (LG)

This might have been my standout wine from the staff tasting that we did today. I immediately fell in love with the nose, it's so pretty with orchard fruit cushioned with white flowers. I could just sit here and smell this all day, I'm just super enchanted. While it's mostly peaches, there's some apricot, a little fresh red apple, and a little bit of mixed citrus zest and then just everything surrounded by pretty white flowers more honeysuckle than jasmine. The palate is really juicy and fresh, apricot, crisp red apple, lemon candy, and a little bit of orange zest just bring so much to the party with this lingering fresh finish that just goes and goes. I really really dig this, for the price it's such an easy choice. This is fabulous, you're fabulous, let's just go for it.

Notes

In the words of María José López de Heredia, "If there is one person in the wine world that I could recommend it is Fernando Mora, because he gives me hope for the future of the world of wine in Spain." The owner and winemaker at Bodegas Frontonio in the little-known region of Valdejalón in Aragón, Mora produces single vineyard wines from vines that are nearly a century old. The climate here is firmly Mediterranean, with significant day-to-night temperature swings and low rainfall. His preference is for north facing slopes, rich in stones, and planted to old vines. The resulting wines have remarkable purity and intensity. Mora is also a Master of Wine and wrote his research paper on the potential for a classification system in nearby Campo de Borja.
