Notes
This wine is made from Quinta do Noval's most ancient vines, a tiny patch of vineyard that escaped phylloxera and continues to produce miniscule quantities of unbelievably fine, concentrated wines. Quinta do Noval and Sandemann were among a small group of port lodges to declare 1982 a vintage instead of 1983, and the relative obscurity of this vintage has contributed to the relatively low price of this super-rare port. According to Michael Broadbent, the "good wines (of 1982) are drinking well, and (are) seriously undervalued." Of the 1982 Nacional specifically, he writes: "Consistent; deep, rich colour, maturing; equally rich spicy nose and flavour; sweet, full, glorious length and aftertaste. ***** (five out of five stars). Last tasted September 1994."
