Reviewed October 2024Three barrels with one new and two older, purchased in must as an exchange. An attractive primrose colour. The nose is not yet very forthcoming but there is more fruit weight and a little more oak. Good wine, well-made, but not quite in the same style as Simon’s other wines.

Burghound
A discreet dollop of wood easily allows the ripe, fresh and markedly floral-suffused aromas of pear, apple, zest and quinine to be appreciated. There is excellent punch to the overtly stony medium weight flavors that aren't quite as dense though they are finer and more mineral-driven while displaying even better length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. Lovely and understated. (Drink starting 2031) (AM)

Vinous
The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru was made from purchased juice. It has a crisp nose with Granny Smith, Conference pear and wet limestone scents. The palate is quite rich and a little honeyed on the entry with good weight, though perhaps the 2022 displayed a little more tension last year. Still, this should age well in bottle. (Drink between 2026-2040) (NM)
