The Clos Prieur really shines this year with a pretty, Pinot-y color, sweet red fruits and floral tones. Beautifully fragrant, the nose pulsates from the glass. The oak is discreet and stylishly integrated as are the flowing, powdery tannins. These 25 ares sit just below Mazis-Chambertin.

Note: planted in 1985. A background touch of menthol is present on the cool and airy aromas of black and red cherry, forest floor and less prominent sauvage nuances. The succulent, refined and intensely mineral-driven medium weight flavors possess a sleek mouthfeel while exhibiting excellent depth and persistence on the powerful finale. This is firm, balanced and built-to-age - one to consider.*Burghound Sweet Spot Outstanding!*

A pretty and even ruby. The bouquet is fine and elegant with a little more density than the first three 1ers Crus. On the cusp of strawberry and raspberry, with a balanced structure between fine tannins and light acidity. Very gracious, elegant wine. Silkier than usual. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2024.

In contrast to the cranky Corbeaux, the 2023 Clos Prieur was in fine form and showing beautifully. The wine’s aromatic constellation is complex and refined, offering up scents of red and black cherries, black plums, spiced meats, mustard seed, a lovely base of dark soil tones, bonfire, coffee bean and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and soil-driven in personality, with superb depth at the core, ripe tannins, lovely grip and a long, complex and very precise, seamlessly balanced finish. First class juice! (Drink between 2038-2080)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Just under Mazis, from the high part of Clos Prieur – ‘Haute’ – so 1er cru – this was racked this week – so let’s see…A broad swathe of aroma – less focus than the Corbeaux today. More mouth-filling volume, this classy flavour melting over the palate, framed with a very tiny grain – sometime invisible – of tannin Fading very slowly. Less in place today but it will be lovely…:(01/2025)
