This wine's bright mineral snap, ripe black cherry fruit aromas and hints of liquorice and smoke are all immensely attractive. The texture is firmly tannic and dense but eminently approachable young. The grapes are from 0.15ha of limestone scree replanted in 2000; half are fermented as whole clusters, and the wine is ageing in cask, 30% new. Once bottled, give this wine five to seven years and drink over the next 30. Biodynamic.(CC)

Lifted on the nose, this starts with garden soil, blueberries and crushed slate. The concentrated fruit teems with mineral exuberance and is nicely framed by tingly tannins. The finish is juicy and sustained. This 14 ares parcel sits in the top, center portion of the cru and was replanted in 2000.

The 2023 aux Combottes from the domaine also has a nice touch of red fruit to its personality this year. The very complex bouquet delivers a marvelous blend of red plums, red and black cherries, cocoa, a complex base of soil, gamebird, woodsmoke and a deft framing of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, complex and tangy, with a gorgeous core of fruit, fine soil inflection, refined tannins and lovely length and grip on the complex and beautifully balanced finish. This is simply outstanding in 2023! (Drink between 2037-2080)

A perfumed, and exceptionally elegant, nose freely reveals its aromas of the essence of red berries along with a plethora of floral elements and subtle spice wisps. Once again the middle weight flavors possess a really lovely texture while displaying excellent punch and detail on the balanced, youthfully austere and notably more complex finale. I like the length and this is a wine that should amply repay mid-term keeping. Lovely.*Burghound Outstanding!*

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Vines replanted in 2000 – the wine is really starting to speak… Ooh – beautiful perfume! Scale in the mouth – some extra architectural sense to this structure with 1-2 mm of padding but finely balanced. That’s very high level Gevrey 1er Cru – wonderful wine!"(01/2025)
