A bright ruby purple. Good energy without massive concentration. A darker red berry fruit. No more than a middleweight Gevrey but a very pretty one with a fluid fruit that extends across the palate, and indeed returns after the very refined tannins. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2024.

Note: from 7 different lieux-dits. A mentholated top note can be found on the slightly riper aromas of plum, newly turned earth and a whisper of the sauvage. The sleek, delicious and vibrant middle weight flavors possess both fine vibrancy and detail while delivering solid length on the moderately austere and lightly rustic finale. This is a solid Gevrey villages and worth checking out.*Burghound Outstanding!*

The old vine bottling of Gevrey villages from the Rossignols had just been assembled into tank the week prior to my visit. The wine is clearly going to be excellent, as it offers up a deep and pure bouquet of black cherries, sweet dark berries, grilled meats, coffee bean, dark soil tones, woodsmoke and a gentle touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and really shows off a lovely core of fruit, with lovely soil signature, fine-grained tannins, excellent balance and a long, focused and tangy finish. (Drink between 2033-2070)

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from 60- to 65-year-old vines. With quite a backward nose at first, the fruit profile leans more toward black than red, with touches of graphite in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins and fine structure, though it needs a little more harmony and fluidity toward the finish, which falls away a just little too quickly. Give this two or three years.(NM)

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Around 10 parcels – three sectors – near the domaine, another near the chateau of Gevrey, and the third and to the south of Gevrey with separate elevage. Ready to bottle.Hmm – that’s a lovely nose – more compact but with classier, darker fruit – precision! A wine that’s showing extra structure – a lovely architecture – than a burst of finishing flavour that only very slowly fades. Hmm – almost contemplative – and very classy…"(01/2025)
