Pure red fruits pop on the nose: açai, red cherries and field strawberries. Overt, spicy oak sticks out a bit for now, but the broad, turbo-charged fruit load will easily absorb it in time. The dynamic structure will give this a long life. The bracing acidity crackles while the supple, streamlined tannins offer more gentle support.

The 2023 Latricières-Chambertin from Domaine Rossignol-Trapet is a brilliant wine in the making. The bouquet is flat out stunning, soaring from the glass in a blaze of red and black cherries, red plums, a gorgeous base of dark soil tones, coffee bean, sweet stem tones, a touch of cocoa powder, woodsmoke and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and revels in its stunning core of fruit, with fine soil signature and grip, fine-grained tannins, good acids and a very, very long, seamlessly balanced and very energetic finish. I love the backend lift here! As Latricières is a cooler microclimate, it can often be a bit more reserved than the other two grand crus in the cellar here, but this is emphatically not the case with this stunning wine! (Drink between 2040-2100)

Note: from vines planted in 1955. A strikingly elegant if restrained nose is comprised by notes of red and dark currant, forest floor, exotic tea and an abundance of floral hints. There is both fine intensity and an almost aggressive minerality to the chiseled medium-bodied flavors that possess an appealing texture before concluding in a moderately austere and refreshing finish that also displays just a touch of warmth. This is a very classy wine that should also amply repay mid to longer-term keeping.

Medium ruby purple. The bouquet builds slowly and steadily, with the floral side of raspberries, very stylish more than intense. The wood shows rather more prominently here, with a useful touch of acidity behind. Drink from 2032-2038. Tasted Nov 2024.

Notes

Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Quite a cold area under the forest so normally the last parcel to be harvested. 0.75 hectares right in the centre of the vineyard.Rounder, more aromatic – even a little smoky. Incisive wine – seamless in width – and what an extra level of of depth to this flavour – properly grand in the middle and finishing flavours. It will be an excellent Latricières."(01/2025)
