The 2023 Chambertin from Domaine Rossignol-Trapet was one of the most brilliant young red wines that I tasted on my trip this year. The wine’s aromatic constellation is classic and stunning, delivering scents of red and black cherries, red plums, grilled meats, a touch of Cuban tobacco, a complex foundation of black minerality, gentle spice tones, woodsmoke and cedar. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, complex and sappy at the core, with great focus and balance, beautiful mineral drive and a very long, vibrant and fine-grained finish. Not really any deeper in colour, an elegant ruby. Perfumed, stylish, very understated to begin with, then grows beautifully, super elegant, a refined and stylish Chambertin which captures the beauty of this terroir without exaggeration. A little oak to finish. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2024.

Expansive on the nose, this starts with underbrush, briar, rose petals and orange peels. Ethereal and graceful, everything is nicely in place. The perky acidity wraps around the medium-bodied, sweet fruits. Black cherries abound through the sappy, singing and graciously long finish.
